What is Computer Aided Verification and Computer Aided Inspection
As in any good
engineering process, verifications of the work need to be made along
the way. One of those ways is by using computer-aided
verification. This is the process of comparing a point cloud to
the surface model. Does the modeled geometry compare closely to the
measured point cloud? A color map is produced as a quick and
effective way to verify that the work has been done accurately:

Computer-aided
inspection is a method of comparing a first article part to the
original CAD model. Using 3D scanning services in the reverse engineering project, the part is inspected, surfaced, and a color map is generated to compare
the actual part to the original design. Essentially, a point cloud
is merged with a CAD model.
