"In order to achieve a desired length on gage blocks, it is often necessary to combine lengths in a a process called 'wringing'. Wringing is the process of attaching gage blocks to each other in a manner that for all practical purposes the space between the blocks can be ignored and the combined length is considered equal to the individual blocks."

"It seems a Calibration Training class/workshop cannot be complete without the discussion regarding adjusting of gages that belong to certain departments or employee owned gages. Experienced Toolmakers and Machinists are often reluctant to allow Calibration Personnel to calibrate or adjust their precision gages. This reluctance can certainly be understood and should not be taken personally by Calibration Personnel."
