HOW TO INSPECT GD&T SPECIFICATIONS

Someone had the bright idea of putting GD&T symbols all over your drawings, now what do you do? How about learning how to inspect each of these ASME Y14.5 specifications? We can show you how in this straightforward, practical course.

This two-day GD&T course is designed specifically to present the information to properly interpret and verify each of the 14 geometric characteristic symbols.
TARGET AUDIENCE   COURSE LENGTH AND COST
This program is designed for anyone who is responsible for measuring part features, or for interpreting the results of measurements from the metrology department. This is not specific to any particular measurement software package. A.G.I. strongly recommends Fundamentals of GD&T and Advanced GD&T as prerequisites for this course, or the permission of the instructor. Length: 2 days

WHAT’S COVERED

OBJECTIVES:

  • Review the concepts of the Y14.5M standard
  • Expand the participants’ knowledge of the concepts and the language of the Y14.5M standard as it pertains to inspection
  • Make practical use of software, hardware, and measurement philosophies
  • Develop "work-arounds" to overcome potential measurement uncertainties

PROGRAM OUTLINE:

The program begins with a review of GD&T. We then continue with practical evaluation of measurement philosophy and capabilities, as well as pitfalls. The subject matter covered is (as a minimum):

  • Introduction -- Objectives, review GD&T
  • Metrology -- concepts, philosophy, practice, and misconceptions
  • Measurement software -- what is being calculated per the ASME/ANSI Y14.5M standard and what is not
  • Effects of Datum features of size
  • "Shortcuts" you can take, and those that you cannot
  • Review of actual prints (participant and instructor supplied)
