The ISO 9001:2000 Training Standard

One of the elements in the ISO 9001: 2000 standard is training. This month, I will provide you with a sample procedure to satisfy the training requirement and to help you have an effective training process.

SCOPE:

This procedure applies to training for all Quality are Us personnel that perform work affecting quality.

1.0       DETERMINE TRAINING NEEDS

Personnel qualifications shall be determined by management for all job classifications and documented in training requirements maintained by H.R. All personnel shall be qualified to perform their work, including personnel performing multiple tasks and personnel transferred into new positions. Job qualifications may be satisfied by experience, education or training.

If a manager or supervisor determines that an individual needs training for any reason, training shall be provided. Managers and supervisors are responsible to assure that training is conducted, and that all personnel reporting to them are qualified to perform their tasks.

Training is provided to fulfill job qualifications and to perform tasks outlined in operating procedures and work instructions.

2.0       CREATE TRAINING FILE

A training file is created for each individual by H.R. where their record of training is maintained.

3.0       CONDUCT TRAINING

At the beginning of each calendar year, each department manager or supervisor reviews the training records of each person reporting to them to determine if anyone requires training. Training shall be conducted by a supervisor, manager, designated training individual or a training organization.

4.0       DOCUMENT TRAINING

After training is complete, the individual that provided the training (the individual's manager, supervisor, or H.R.) records the training into the individuals training file.

5.0       REVIEW TRAINING EFFECTIVENESS

Effectiveness is evaluated as follows for job skills training:

Internal audits and/or tests done to evaluate training effectiveness. If the results are not acceptable, appropriate training is provided.
