Calibrating Master Gages

"Over the past 6 years that I have conducted workshops at and consulted with dozens of companies and hundreds of personnel. I often receive feedback regarding Master Gages.

There seems to be some confusion regarding the definition of Master Gages. In particular, there is often a question regarding Master Gage Blocks.

I have found, in particular, 2 scenarios regarding Master Gage Blocks..."

"
In the world of dimensional measurement, electronic gages make up a class of instruments that are capable of detecting extremely small dimensional variations on a surface element. The gage's electronic transducer can operate in a number of differentprecise differential measurements ways, typically LVDT (Linear Variable Differential Transducer) or through a digital scale-based technology. The resulting signal can be amplified or counted and is then available for display on an electronic readout or it can be fed directly into a computer-based software system..."

Character Quote of the Month

"Life is 10% what happens to us and 90% how we respond to it.  Attitude is the single most significant decision I make each day."

- Chuck Swindoll

"
Many people confuse the act of measuring a part with that of gaging a part. Although both operations are similar, understanding the subtle differences between the two can improve the accuracy and efficiency of both processes.
Measuring is the process of determining the dimensions of a part by referring to a standard. Precision tools, such as scales,
A dial or digital comparator calipers and micrometers, are measuring instruments. They have a built-in dimensional reference such as precision etched lines, a magnetic scale, or a precision screw. These provide the standard against which the part is compared..."

Why have articles on character?
"Speak With a Gentle Attitude
A gentle hand is a gift, but a gentle tongue is a treasure.  Controlling the tongue is one of the great disciplines of gentleness.  Gentleness is not just saying nice words, however.  In fact, gentle speech is most important when hard things need to be said.
An excellent example of addressing difficult situations with gentleness is a letter written by Abraham Lincoln to Major General Joseph Hooker in 1863.  Lincoln handed Hooker the following letter upon giving him command of the Army of the Potomac
